Our Vision
Our vision is to harness The University of Manchester’s research, teaching and innovation strengths to help create a future in which people, communities and nature can thrive.
Complex and urgent challenges, including the climate and biodiversity crises, cannot be addressed by any one discipline, sector or organisation. They require ambitious, co-created and interdisciplinary responses that accelerate progress while recognising social, economic and environmental connections and avoiding unintended consequences.
Sustainable Futures provides the leadership, networks and resources needed to convene expertise around these challenges. By connecting research excellence with the knowledge and priorities of communities, policymakers, civic institutions and industry, we aim to tackle the questions society urgently needs answered and deliver impact faster and at greater scale.
Our three Missions focus this ambition on creating thriving, inclusive and sustainable places; enabling clean industrial revolutions; and developing green skills for everyone. Together, they provide a framework for collaboration, innovation and lasting change.
